What’s better than having a boat dock in your back yard? The answer is having a dock with a boat lift to raise your boat out of the water when not in use protecting your boat from growth and barnacles. And, what’s better than a having a boat lift to protect your boat? The answer is having a dock and boat lift that is all undercover!
A roof or canopy for your dock and lift is truly an added luxury. Options range from simple cloth canopies supported by aluminum framing to a standard building roof, which is built using piling as the support and roofing rafters as the structure, with plywood, felt material, and roof shingles – just as you would build the roof for a house. Both protect your boat (and investment) from the scorching.
It is important to note that both the installation of a canopy roof as well as the construction of a framed roof require a special “boat house permit”. While acquiring a boat house permit is generally not difficult, it does require more time, additional permitting fees. It is also very helpful to have a knowledgeable understanding of the permitting process.
